(hotair) Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws. Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years. The Taliban pounded on the door just before midnight , demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husband's house. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn't run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander, was unmoved . Aisha's brother-in-law held her down while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears. Then he started on her nose. This didn't happen 10 years ago , when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. It happened last year. Now hidden in a secret women's shelter in Kabul, Aisha listens obsessively to the news. Talk that the Afghan government is considering some kind of political accommodation with the Taliban frightens her. "They are the people that did this to me," she says, touching her damaged face. "How can we reconcile with them?" As the war in Afghanistan enters its ninth year, the need for an exit strategy weighs on the minds of U.S. policymakers. Such an outcome, it is assumed, would involve reconciliation with the Taliban. But Afghan women fear that in the quest for a quick peace , their progress may be sidelined. "Women's rights must not be the sacrifice by which peace is achieved," says parliamentarian Fawzia Koofi. Read More

(patriotupdate)The Ten Commandments According to Obama We have concluded that our President lives and governs according to his own set of “Ten Commandments.” They’re certainly NOT the Ten Commandments you learned in Sunday School. In fact , many are the direct opposite! To prove that our conclusions are correct, you will find a link to source documentation for each commandment on the Patriot Update web site.
I . Thou shalt have no God in America , except for me. For we are no longer a Christian nation and, after all, I am the chosen One. (And like God, I do not have a birth certificate.) SOURCE
II . Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image , unless it is my face carved on Mt. Rushmore. SOURCE
III . Thou shalt not utter my middle name in vain (or in public). Only I can say Barack Hussein Obama. SOURCE
IV . Remember tax day, April 15th , to keep it holy. SOURCE
V . Honour thy father and thy mother until they are too old and sick to care for. They will cost our public-funded health-care system too much money. SOURCE
VI . Thou shalt not kill , unless you have an unwanted, unborn baby. For it would be an abomination to punish your daughter with a baby. SOURCE
VII . Thou shalt not commit adultery if you are conservative or a Republican . Liberals and Democrats are hereby forgiven for all of their infidelity and immorality, but the careers of conservatives will be forever destroyed. SOURCE
VIII . Thou shalt not steal, until you've been elected to public office. Only then is it acceptable to take money from hard-working, successful citizens and give it to those who do not work, illegal immigrants, or those who do not have the motivation to better their own lives. SOURCE
IX . Thou shalt not discriminate against thy neighbor unless they are conservative, Caucasian, or Christian. SOURCE
X . Thou shalt not covet because it is simply unnecessary . I will place such a heavy tax burden on those that have achieved the American Dream that, by the end of my term as President, nobody will have any wealth or material goods left for you to covet. SOURCE Read More

(washingtonexaminer) Until yesterday, Shirley Sherrod was Georgia Director of Rural Development for the USDA. Earlier in the day at Big Government, Andrew Breitbart put up a video that exposed Ms. Sherrod as someone all too willing to discriminate based on race. Within hours of the video's release, USDA Director Tom Vilsack announced Sherrod's resignation , and in the process issued an exceptionally strong condemnation ("We are appalled by her actions ... Her actions were shameful ... she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man"). The NAACP, at whose Freedom Fund Banquet Sherrod spoke of her discriminatory posture , and at which the audience seemed to indicate approval of her outlook, followed a short time later, virtually echoing Vilsack.
So I guess we're supposed to forget about Shirley Sherrod from this point forwardNot just yet. Luckily, she's not going away quietly, and is complaining about Fox News and the Tea Party causing her dismissal. Keep it up, ma’am, because you and the USDA both deserve further scrutiny.Ms. Sherrod's previous background, the circumstances surrounding her hiring, and the USDA's agenda may all play a part in explaining her sudden departure from the agency. These matters have not received much scrutiny to this point . Did Shirley Sherrod resign so quickly because the circumstances of her hiring and the lawsuit settlement with her organization that preceded it might expose some unpleasant truths about her possible and possibly sanctioned conflicts of interest? Why were the Sherrods so deserving of a combined $300,000 in "pain and suffering" payments from their lawsuit with the U.S.D.A. -- amounts that far exceed the average payout thus far to everyone else? ($1.15 billion divided by 16,000 is about $72,000)?Read More

(FriendsOfTheUSchamber) The congressional majority and the administration have taken their eyes off the ball when it comes to Americans' top priority - creating jobs. Although the economy may be growing again, it is not growing nearly fast enough to create the 20 million jobs we'll need in the next decade to replace those lost in the recession and to keep up with a growing population.Instead of partnering with the business community and embracing proven ideas for job creation , the congressional majority and the administration have embarked on a course of rapid government expansion, major tax increases and suffocating regulations. Their actions have injected tremendous uncertainty into our economy. Banks, investors, companies, entrepreneurs, and consumers are concerned and worried. They don't know what is going to hit them next. One thing is certain: If we continue on our current course , we may lose even more jobs and we could end up in a double-dip recession. We will also erode our competitive position globally, as other nations take steps to cut taxes, reduce regulations, and restrain the appetites of government .As the president has said repeatedly, and as every economist knows, prosperity and job growth come from the private sector , not from the government. Government's role is to establish the right conditions so the private sector can invest, grow, compete, create new products and services, and put Americans back to work. Read More
